New York Mayor Eric Adams Charged with Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud and Bribery

The mayor of New York City has found himself in a legal quandary.

Eric AdamsThe New York City mayor has been indicted since 2022 on five federal charges, according to an indictment obtained by NBC News, including one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of federal program bribery, one count of receiving campaign contributions from foreign nationals, one count of wire fraud, one count of soliciting a contribution from a foreign national, one count of soliciting a contribution from a foreign national, and one count of bribery.

According to a 57-page federal indictment unsealed on Sept. 26, prosecutors from the Southern District of New York allege that Adams sought and accepted luxury international travel from wealthy businessmen and at least one Turkish government official for nearly 10 years in exchange for official favors.

The documents also allege that by 2018, Adams “not only accepted illegal contributions to his 2021 mayoral campaign, but also sought them, along with other items of value, from foreign nationals.”
