Well, it seems this breakup wasn’t just a promotion for The Valley after all! Months after announcing their split, Brittany Cartwright The divorce petition has been officially filed by Jax TaylorBrittany and Jax have been married for five years and have a three-year-old son named Cruz.

Brittany and Jax started dating in 2015, and their relationship was heavily documented on Vanderpump Rules. They got engaged in 2018, almost a year after Jax cheated. Despite the rocky history, Brittany was over the moon at the time, shouting, “I like you.”GayThey got married on her balcony like Monica Gellar on Friends. The couple had an elaborate wedding at Brittany’s dream venue, a Kentucky castle, the following year.

Their split was announced before they returned to reality TV in The Valley, leading to speculation that it was all just a publicity stunt. However, the first season explored the problems in their marriage extensively. Then, in the finale, Brittany made it clear why she couldn’t take it anymore. Months later, she took the next step. Here’s everything we know about Brittany and Jax’s impending divorce so far.

As we saw on The Valley, Brittany initiated the split. So, it’s no surprise that she’s the one filing for divorce. The documents were filed with the court on Tuesday, August 27, and were obtained by TMZ the same day.

Brittany cited the standard reason for the split, irreconcilable differences. She asked for sole legal and physical custody of Cruz, though she also asked the court to grant Jackson visitation rights. Brittany listed the date of the split as January 24 of this year. That’s about a month before they officially announced their split.

As for finances, Brittany has not asked for spousal support. In fact, she has asked a judge to deny any spousal support requests from either party. On The Valley, Brittany claimed that she makes good money. She also said that Jax has a problem with her making more money than he does.

How did Jax Taylor react?

When the news first broke, Jax’s rep did not comment. Later that day, a source close to Jax spoke to People magazine. The former SUR bartender is understood to be having “mixed emotions” about the end of his marriage.

“He knows it was the right decision in the end but he’s sad that it ended this way,” the source said, referring to his stay in inpatient treatment. “It’s been an emotional month for him,” the source continued. “He’s trying to stay strong for his son,” they added. When Jax checked into rehab, he stressed his drive to be a better man for Cruise. He was in the mental health facility for 30 days.

“Brittany was supportive of Jax’s decision to seek help for their son,” a source previously told People magazine. “However, going forward, she is not interested in anything to do with him.”

Meanwhile, a source close to Brittany also spoke to People magazine. Initially, they claimed that the official split had been “long in the making.” The source stressed that Brittany knows this is the best move for her and her son. Brittany’s main motivation was for “her and Cruz to move on and stop this vicious cycle they’ve been in.”

“So much has happened in the past few months that she just can’t get over it,” the source added. While they didn’t elaborate, the relationship has been strained since the breakup. For example, Jax and Brittany have stopped hosting their joint podcast. Brittany recently accused her ex of lying about donating money to charity. She’s reportedly unable to stand being in the same room with Jax. Meanwhile, on a much happier note, she’s reportedly seeing a new man.

Ultimately, the source said, “This decision was not made lightly, but she feels determined that it was the right one.”

What were Jax and Brittany doing before filing for divorce?

Brittany filing for divorce doesn’t come as a complete surprise, for a number of reasons. Including the estranged couple’s actions — and the headlines they’ve made — in recent weeks. Perhaps most notable, in light of what’s happened, is Brittany’s most recent Instagram post before filing for divorce. She showed off a revenge dress and captioned it, “Now the old is out, the new is in.” Kristen Doute liked the post, also commenting, “Someday.” On the day she filed for divorce, she posted another glamorous selfie, claiming to be “getting her glow back.”

Recently, a few of her friends (temporarily) changed the name of Jax’s bar to Britt’s Studio City. Including a few cast members of The Valley. Jax was still in rehab at the time.

It makes sense for Brittany to wait until Jax completes his inpatient treatment to file the application. At the time of his release, Brittany moved her things out of their shared home. Meanwhile, Jax got a haircut.

Will there be a divorce in season 2 of The Valley?

Yes, filming for season two of The Valley is still underway. However, even if it wasn’t, we imagine they’d be rolling out the cameras again. That’s what they did in season one, to capture the moments after Brittany first left Jax. The series continued filming while Jax was in rehab, too.

Cameras have been rolling all summer. So we imagine viewers will get a closer look at what Jax has been up to over the past few months that has pushed her over the edge. And based on the rebranding of the Brit City studio, at least a few members of The Valley cast are standing by Brittany. With all the divorce drama, we’ll have to see if the show gets a reunion this time around. Fans were pretty disappointed that the shockingly great first season didn’t have a reunion at all.

We also imagine that the second season will deal with the rumored love story between the couple after their separation. It’s all over, here’s the new!
