The British cyclist breaks his leg weeks before the 2024 Paris Olympics

to Katie ArchibaldHer 2024 Olympic dream was over before it even began.

The British cyclist was just weeks away from competing in her third Olympic Games when an injury at home ruined her chances of competing for Great Britain.

“I tripped on a step in the park,” Katie began an Instagram update on June 20, which included a selfie of herself and a photo of her foot in a cast. “Somehow, I managed to dislocate my ankle, break my tibia and fibula, and tear two ligaments out of my bones. What the hell.”

While thanking her “amazing” medical team, the 30-year-old explained that she had undergone surgery and would be returning home that afternoon with her leg in the boot.

“One hundred apologies for what this means to the Olympic team, which I was told would not include me,” she continued. “I’m still processing that part of the news, but I think it’s better to confirm it publicly rather than leave it up to it (trip risk and all that).”

While the three-time medalist indicated she might take a break from social media during her recovery, that didn’t stop many well-wishers from filling her comments section with positive thoughts.
