Survivor legend Kim Johnson dies at 79

Survivor Another legend has been lost. The first person voted off the show, Sonya Christopher, recently passed away. Now fans have learned of the passing of Kim Johnson79, competed in the third season of the series. That version was filmed in Africa. Ethan Zohn won that season, while Kim came in second. Both Survivors host Jeff Probst Ethan shared their thoughts on losing Kim.

On July 29, Kim’s daughter Kerry Johnson Tichy told People magazine, “Our mother left a legacy of strength, resilience, kindness and generosity. She wore her rose-colored glasses until the end.” The statement concluded, “She was the most amazing mother and grandmother in the world. We will miss her forever…”

Survivor: Africa star Ethan shared his feelings in an Instagram post, sharing a video of Kim’s best moments from the season. “Rest in peace Kym Johnson. It was a pleasure to call you my friend and it was a pleasure to live through last Tribal Council with you,” Ethan wrote. “I will always have the Planters Punch trophy in your honor.” The Planters Punch trophy refers to the immunity challenge for the final three. When asked what she was thinking, Kim said she was on the beach with the Planters Punch trophy.

Jeff also shared his feelings about the retired schoolteacher in a statement posted to social media. “Kim was a pioneer on Survivor and we are deeply saddened to learn of her passing. She still holds the record for the oldest woman to ever win an immunity challenge, earning her spot in the finals and even getting voted into the game,” the statement read. “I remember even then, at just 56 years old, how inspiring she was to other seniors as she showed that age is just a number.” “She definitely left her mark on the game and on all of us who were fortunate enough to work on that season and tell her story,” the statement concluded.
