Survivor 47 is officially here! The season kicked off with a wild two-hour premiere full of crazy twists and turns. Host Jeff Probst welcomed 18 new castaways to the island of Fiji, where they began their journey. The three tribes on this season are called Gata, Lavo, and Toko and are represented by the colors yellow, red, and blue, respectively. After winning the first challenge, Gata struggled during the Immunity Challenge that ultimately sent them to Tribal Council. This led to John Lovett being the first castaway of the season.
The premiere revealed a lot of information about this season’s players, and some of them are very exciting to see more of. While some stood out for their strategy and charm, others left a more chaotic impression. However, Survivor is a reality show and some hot drama always adds something interesting to the mix. These five contestants made a name for themselves during the premiere and we’re excited to see more of them soon.
Survivor 47: Andy Rueda
Andy Rueda definitely turned heads during his first appearance on Survivor 47, for good and bad reasons. During the first challenge, Andy helped his Jata tribe secure the win. It was immediately clear that Andy was a strong player in terms of strength, but his social game was lacking. Andy felt that the rest of his tribe didn’t appreciate him and was frustrated that they didn’t cheer for him when he broke the coconut, but they did for John.
The craziest moment for Andy was when he started to collapse after losing the Immunity Challenge. Andy lay down before the challenge was over, prompting Jeff to send paramedics to check on him. It turned out that Andy had just run a fever, but then he continued to announce to everyone that he felt like he was on the bottom. In the end, Andy was safe at Tribal Council because his tribe values his physical strength. While Andy may be a controversial player, he is an entertaining one. It will be interesting to see how he continues to play his game.
Survivor 47: Gabe Ortis
Jab Ortis started his game strong during the Survivor 47 premiere. After arriving at camp, Jab wasted no time in searching for an idol. Jab was able to find the caution advantage very quickly, which of course had its surprises. The advantage gave Jab the opportunity to grab a valid idol for one tribe or continue searching for a valid idol for three. Jab took the risk and successfully retrieved the next idol. While he could have continued searching for a third idol, Jab made the smart decision to keep the second idol since it was still very early in the game.
Not only is Gabe’s strategic game strong, but his physical and social skills are also impressive. Gabe has been a great asset to Tuku in physical challenges and is definitely one of the strongest players on the tribe. In terms of his social game, Gabe has already built a strong alliance with Sue Smey. Gabe told Sue about his cautious edge right away, which helped build trust between them. So far, Gabe is setting himself up for a successful Survivor game and we’re excited to see what he does next.
Survivor 47: So Samai
Speaking of Sue, she’s another player on our Survivor 47 radar! At 59, Sue is the oldest player this season but from the way she plays, you’d never know! Sue proved her physical strength during the first challenge, effortlessly carrying a heavy puzzle piece on her back. Furthermore, Sue was an invaluable asset to Toko during the Immunity Challenge, helping them keep moving despite facing some adversity.
Sue also excels at her social game. Her alliance with Gabi is a great start and she has also built a close relationship with Caroline Vidmar. Sue may be older than the rest of her tribe but she has had no trouble connecting with them. Sue is also clearly a loyal ally, distracting the rest of the tribe while Gabi goes in search of the idol.
Survivor 47: Roma Coney
Rom Connie was one of the Lavo players who stood out during the premiere. During the two challenges, Rom proved to be one of the physically strongest players on Lavo. Being a player who focuses on strength always has its advantages, especially when it comes to blending in. However, Rom’s most notable moment in the episode was his adventure at camp.
While the rest of the tribe was bonding, Rome immediately set off to search for an idol. He thought he was joking, but his tribemates quickly noticed what he was doing. After endless searching, Rome eventually found the Caution feature that led him to an idol. Rome worked hard to get the prize, even choosing to dive into a well to find a key. While Rome’s game hasn’t been flawless so far, he could end up being one of the most well-rounded players of the season.
Survivor 47: Tiny Chirichello
Teni Chirichello was one of the first players introduced on Survivor 47, which helped her make an instant impression. Teni’s biggest strength so far has been her social game. Perhaps the strongest social player on the game so far, Teni instantly connected with her entire tribe. Teni has a strong likability, which could easily win the judges’ votes if she makes it to the final three.
Along with her social skills, Tini also has a strong team spirit in the challenges. While Tini may not be the strongest physically, she is a positive force for her team which is also essential. Tini is not here to mess around, so it will be interesting to see how far she can go on Survivor!
