Shining Star Shelley Duvall Dies at 75

Hollywood is mourning the loss of one of its greatest stars of all time.

Shelley Duvallknown for playing the tormented wife, Wendy Torrence, in the shiningShe died in her sleep on July 11, and her life partner Dan Gilroy NBC News confirmed her death, and she was 75 years old.

“She left after a lot of suffering, which is a good thing I guess. I can’t describe how much I miss her,” Gilroy said in a statement.

Gilroy confirmed that Shelly had been in the hospital for treatment of diabetes complications “for the past few months” and was bedridden until her death was discovered on the morning of July 11.

“I’m happy for her that she’s no longer suffering,” he said of his late partner’s death, before noting that she spent her final years among good company. “It’s a great little community here, and a lot of people support us. We have good friends here, so there’s a support system in place.”
