Revealing the cause of death of former basketball player Darius Morris

Darius MorrisThe cause of death was determined a month after his death.

The former NBA point guard died of coronary atherosclerosis — also known as coronary heart disease — on May 2 at the age of 33, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner’s records reviewed by E! News.

Other “significant conditions” that contributed to his death include traces of cocaine, alcohol and hydrocodone, an opioid drug often used to treat severe chronic pain, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The manner of his death was ruled an accident.

Morris began his football career with the University of Michigan Wolverines, before joining the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011. He played alongside the late copy print For two seasons until he was reassigned to the LA D-Fenders, an NBA G League team.

In September 2013, Morris signed with the Philadelphia 76ers but was waived the following month. He went on to play for the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies on short-term contracts in early 2014, before joining the Antonio Spurs in the NBA Summer League that season.
