The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star was recently spotted out one night with her husband at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards in Brooklyn, New York. Meredith and Seth made an adorable pair and shared a kiss on the red carpet.
Communication is key
What’s Meredith’s secret to keeping the marriage going?
“No. 1 is communication,” Meredith tells PEOPLE. This is her simple, straightforward advice for a successful marriage. “Once that goes, everything else follows.”
Mer previously spoke about her, Seth, and their decades-long marriage. The couple has three children – Reed, Chloe, and Brooks. However, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for them.
She readily admits to the ups and downs they’ve been through as a couple since their wedding in 1996. The couple was briefly separated during the first season of RHOSLC.
Meredith revealed another major bump in the road for the couple. This was when she previously requested a postnuptial agreement after 15 years of marriage. It was important to her because divorce was not convenient for women in Utah. It wasn’t about the money but more about custody of their children.
“I think all relationships are permanently hanging by a thread,” she said. “But it’s interesting to work together. We spend a fair amount of time together already because we travel a lot and, more often than not, he works in the same place.
Close proximity may give couples something else to talk about, but Meredith noted that these are usually minor issues that commitment and communication can’t help resolve.
