The Utah native noted that “love is meant to be multiplied, not divided.” Leading up to the season 18 premiere, Cody and the ladies were asked to play a game on TLC’s social media. The network asked Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, Christine Brown, Robyn and Cody to reveal what came to mind when a certain trigger word was said to them. The word “marriage” appeared on the screen, and in an attempt to score points with his only remaining wife, Cody responded, “Now, the source of all joy.” For fans, Cody certainly suggested that he was happier than ever in his single legal marriage. When the word “2025” appeared on the screen, Cody scratched out and pointed to “the future.”
Kody’s first three wives slowly left one by one after he started acting erratically. Kristen was the first to leave town when she finally realized that her husband was playing favorites all along. Janelle wasn’t far behind as she was tired of Kody neglecting their children. And Meri was the last to leave. For years, Meri was put on the back burner, and Kody stated more than once that he had no desire to rekindle their relationship.

When the word “family” appears on the screen, Cody points out, “the source of all joy and all pain.” Fans don’t need a crystal ball to read that answer. While TLC may be trying to push the narrative that Robyn and Cody are fine, fans believe that’s far from the truth. The trailer showed Robyn seemingly at her wit’s end when it comes to Cody’s behavior. The polygamist family man has been angry for years about the state of his family and is finally turning his bad attitude on Robyn. However, the mother of five has already been through one divorce and doesn’t seem like she’ll put up with another bad marriage.
Robyn is seen crying in the trailer, saying, “He’s ruining our relationship.” The previous clip showed Cody ranting about how “they all betrayed me.” But Cody doesn’t seem to know what’s right in front of him. Instead, he’s focusing on all the bad things that have happened. Everyone’s breaking up, Cody. You’re not special. Although Robyn tries to hold on, she can’t help but “feel like the idiot who got left behind.”

Cody may be emotional, but he’s no fool. The father of 18 realizes that his fourth and favorite wife may be about to leave. Trying to please Robyn is more than just saving face. I truly believe he loves Robyn and would lose all control if she left him, too. It didn’t escape us that when the word “Joy” appeared on screen, Robyn appeared to support her husband, saying, “My family and Cody.” For Robyn, her family is her “safe space.” But could her peaceful paradise ever come crashing down? The upcoming season will highlight the dysfunction that exists between the family and the couple. And while Cody may do everything he can to win Robyn back, love may not be enough.
It’s clear that Kody is struggling with his own internal struggles over his failure to make his polygamous family work. But if he hopes to hold on to his one remaining marriage, he’s going to have to put his pride aside and work on being open with Robyn. If he doesn’t, I think that will be the end of the marriage, no matter how many sweet words he tries to appease her with. Those words won’t be enough.
