I love that we live in a democracy. I love that we have freedom.
I would love to live in a democracy. I like that we have freedom of the press. Honestly, I love being American. But what I don’t like is watching a presidential debate full of immorality. The first debate of 2024 took place between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and it was very much the result we as a country expected. I shudder to think that one of the rules the two parties agreed upon was the ability to mute a candidate’s microphone. As I watched this comedy of errors, I was immediately transported back to the first time I watched the debate. Andy Cohen Hosting a Real Housewives reunion.
In fact, a presidential debate isn’t all that different from a Real Housewives reunion. Both feature angry, emotional, dramatic characters who truly believe in their causes. Both feature a form of storytelling sprinkled with a dash of truth. Both a debate and a reunion feature broken promises and moments of deception. And then it dawned on me, like Zeus’s lightning bolt from the sky. Why isn’t Andy hosting the presidential debate?
Andy hosts New Years Eve
Andy is very capable of hosting a meeting of the minds. The Bravo leader has been killing it since his first appearance on The Real Housewives of Orange County in 2006. Since then, he’s been elevated to a hosting spot on New Year’s Eve Live, alongside his pal Anderson Cooper. The Chicago native has received rave reviews. And it probably doesn’t hurt that he gets a little tipsy while he’s at the mic.
The man provided footage on CNN. That is why he is a hero in the eyes of many. Andy and his good friend Anderson have been ringing in the New Year for the past seven years. And with guests like Enrique Iglesias, Maroon 5, The Jonas Brothers, Florida, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, and Rod Stewart, he knows how to handle all types of personalities. The good and the bad. Andy is highly educated and able to divide his own opinions for the benefit of the nation.
Andy is awesome and respected.
Even with all his cue cards to keep the conversation flowing, Andy would sometimes lose it. But he has no problem returning to rule and control. This has been proven time and time again, especially when he yells at women to calm down. I can imagine that if a presidential candidate lost control, Andy would have no problem interrupting and intervening. The Bravo CEO also isn’t afraid to ask tough questions.
Andy has always been well aware that some of his questions aren’t always well received. But he does his best to get the guest to answer. It’s not easy. Just like politicians, the Real Housewives stars have become very good at answering a question they find uncomfortable or don’t have the right answer to. But leave it to our Hardy Boy; Andy will always make sure to get to the bottom of things.
So when it comes to the next debate, maybe this is the guy who will push the candidates to answer about universal health care, abortion, and whether millennials will have a Social Security check to fall back on when they reach retirement.
Are there comparisons?
In 2020, after the first horrific presidential debate, comparisons were made between Trump and The Real Housewives. Back then, we had a president born of reality TV. Trump became a pop culture icon after The Apprentice , and he treated most of his four years in office like a three-ring circus. Andy can work all platforms, whether it’s Zoom meetings, in person, or mingling at BravoCon. He’s well-versed in chaotic moments. He brings decency.
We’ve had movie star presidents (Ronald Reagan) and reality TV stars, so my question is, why isn’t Andy hosting a presidential debate? Honestly, it couldn’t get any worse.
Also, don’t forget to go vote on November 5th!
