I got a text: Season 6 of Love Island USA The series has been a huge success! Peacock’s viewership has doubled since season five and it’s the number one reality show on the internet. That’s pretty impressive for a show that, until this summer, was always in the shadow of the original Love Island.
Season 6 is without a doubt the best season of USA and one of the best seasons of the entire series. It’s so good that I’m really sad that it’s ending in a few days. The amazing drama is definitely one of the reasons why it’s so popular. But as we all know, great TV shows don’t always translate into high ratings.
So how did Love Island USA manage to make it so successful in its sixth season? We have a few theories.
How popular is Love Island USA season 6?
It certainly seems like there were more people watching this season. Especially after the app crashed due to too many people trying to vote at once. However, it could also be because star Odell Beckham Jr. asked his fans to vote for his brother Cordell.
We didn’t know the stats until recently, and they’re bigger than expected. Many outlets are reporting that Love Island USA is the No. 1 reality show right now. Even outside of the reality TV genre, as Variety reports, it’s the hottest show on the air, well ahead of The Bear and The Boys. It’s amazing that a show has reached this popularity after six years. But it’s a testament to how great this season has been.
There’s no denying Ariana Madix’s influence on Love Island USA.
It’s been a year and a half since Scandoval, and it’s time to stop saying that’s the only reason Ariana Madix is successful.
Ariana is more popular than ever. Her first concert in Chicago broke ticket sales records. She will be back on stage once Love Island USA season 6 concludes. Her book Single AF Cocktails was a New York Times bestseller. It can’t be a coincidence that LI USA’s viewership has doubled because of her as a host.
It’s clear from social media that many viewers tuned in to the first season of Love Island because of her. On the other hand, she’s also won over Love Island fans who never watched Vanderpump Rules. The promotional materials for Love Island USA focus on Ariana. A recent ad highlights how many people call her the perfect host. Not to mention all of her fabulous outfits!
I wouldn’t be surprised if jealousy of her success hosting the hottest show is what drove Tom Sandoval to file this ridiculous lawsuit.
New viewers came to see Ariana, and stayed to see the Love Island USA cast.
The casting department deserves a raise! The contestants on Season 6 of Love Island USA are lovable, dramatic, chaotic, funny, and incredibly engaging. Strong personalities are usually needed to keep a show interesting. But for the past two weeks, the return of Season 5 stars Harrison Luna and Cassie Castillo has felt like an unnecessary afterthought, as the current cast has added more than enough drama on its own.
Love Island fans have long expected the final week to be a doozy. But this season is so exciting that we don’t want it to end. That’s a sign of a truly great cast. Fans are even calling for certain Casa Amor contestants to return next season, like Rob Rausch.
The girls were a standout, especially Leah Kateb, Jana Craig, and Serena Paige, who fans call the Powerpuff Girls. As Ariana herself said, watching the girls’ friendships blossom was a highlight of the summer. Katie Maloney spoke for all of us when she said she wanted to spend time with them.
As evidenced by the massive increase in her social media following, Leah, for example, is approaching half a million followers on Instagram. This is the kind of post-show following that has made Love Island UK a hotbed for influencers.
Because Ariana is hosting the show, Bravo fan accounts have been covering Love Island USA and posting about how good it is. Similarly, you can’t go to any Love Island UK-related social media site without finding a million comments asking people to move to the US. I’ve seen several posts on the Love Island UK Reddit asking people to stop talking so much about how the US is taking their share.
Love Island USA’s social media dominance isn’t limited to accounts associated with the reality TV show. Even the Empire State Building social media account has created a TikTok promoting Leah and Rob. Meanwhile, the Xfinity account prefers to have Miguel Harichi with her. Kaylor Martin’s screams of “FAWWWK AARON” have become a meme. So has a photo of an incredibly expressive JaNa.
Love Island USA is a beacon in a bleak summer TV landscape.
With the exception of Love Island USA, this isn’t a great summer for reality TV. Especially when it comes to dating shows. Many viewers turned to USA after the disappointment of Love Island UK’s 11th season. As for similar shows, Too Hot Too Handle won’t return until after LI USA’s sixth season. Bachelor in Paradise is also ending in 2024. While the Bachelorette mansion has rats, the Love Island USA villa is a dream.
As for Bravo’s programming, it seemed like the network was in a bit of a slump when Love Island USA started airing. The long-awaited return of Real Housewives of New Jersey, for example, was a mess. Real Housewives of Orange County finally delivered what fans were missing, but it didn’t start airing until last week.
I can personally say that I have recommended this season to Love Island fans in the UK, as well as people who haven’t watched a season of Love Island in years. The response has been unanimously positive. Anecdotal evidence is not objective. But based on the numbers and the online buzz, I feel confident in declaring Love Island USA the hottest show of the year. And now we’re counting down the days until season seven!
