Frankie Beverly, soul singer and founder of Maze, dies at 77

Family and friends mourn the loss of a music legend.

R&B singer Frankie Beverlyfounder of the funk and soul band mazeHe died at the age of 77.

The family of the musician whose birth name was Howard Stanley BeverlyThe artist Mohamed Ramadan posted the news on his personal Instagram account the day after his death.

“He lived his life with what one might say was a pure soul, and to us, no one did it better. He lived for his music, his family, and his friends,” Beverly’s family shared in a 9/11 message. “Griefing the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal and emotional experience. During this time, as we navigate the emotions of grief, reflection, and remembrance, we ask for your privacy and understanding, allowing us the space to grieve in our own ways.”

The family said they wanted to “honor the memory of our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly,” and asked fans to “love each other as he would have wanted us all.”
