Football star George Baldock was found dead in a swimming pool at the age of 31

The football world is mourning the loss of a Premier League player.

George BaldockThe British-born Panathinaikos defender was found dead in a swimming pool at his home in Glyfada, south of Athens, Greece, on October 9, authorities told Reuters. He was 31 years old.

The cause of the football star’s death is still unknown, but once he arrived at the scene, authorities tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him to no avail. His death was announced at 10 pm local time. Authorities told the BBC they did not believe there was any crime.

Baldock, who is of Greek origin, had recently joined the country’s professional football club after leaving England’s Sheffield United in May. Although he represented Greece twelve times in international matches, he had only appeared in four matches for Panathinaikos at the time of his death, the BBC reported.

He also previously played in England’s lower leagues including Oxford United and MK Dons, before moving to Sheffield in 2017, where he stayed for seven years.
