Deadliest hunting star Nick Mafar dies at the age of 59 in a medical emergency

The reality TV world has lost one of its own.

Nick Mavar– who found fame on the long-running Discovery Channel show The deadliest hunt– He died, according to Alaska authorities. He was 59 years old.

The former FV Northwestern deckhand died after an undisclosed medical emergency on June 13, President Jeffrey Elbe of the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department told E! News.

As of June 14, Elby said the investigation remains open. The cause of death was not revealed.

H! News has reached out to Discovery Channel, as well as the Mavar family for comment.

From 2005 to 2021, Mavar appeared in 98 episodes of the series The deadliest Catch, a reality series that follows a fisherman navigating the harsh conditions of the Bering Sea during crab season. During that period, he worked aboard the commercial fishing vessel Northwestern alongside the captain Say Hansen– Maintenance of the ship’s mechanical equipment.

He eventually left the show after health issues related to his appendix, which were documented in a June 2021 episode of the series.
