CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz Apologizes Amid Massive Technology Outage

After a botched update at the cybersecurity firm caused major technical outages early on the morning of July 19 — affecting airports, banks and other major companies around the world — the company’s CEO addressed the concerns in a heartfelt apology.

“It was not a cyberattack,” said CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz Reassured about today July 19, he noted that the issue was related to a faulty update that affected Microsoft Windows users. “It was related to this content update and as you might imagine, we have been in contact with our customers throughout the night and working with them. Many customers are rebooting and are now up and running.”

Of course, the executive acknowledged that some systems are still being affected by the global outage.

“We will not back down until we put every agent back where they belong. We will continue to protect them and keep the bad guys out of the system,” he added.

Kurtz also noted that “we are deeply sorry for the impact this has caused to customers, travelers and anyone affected by this.”
