Bravo had a huge hit in 2021 when it premiered Family Karma.

Bravo It was a huge hit in 2021 when it first aired. Family KarmaThe series explored the lives of traditional American Indian families living in Miami, Florida. But what was different was that the network didn’t just portray young people making their way in the world, but also their parents. The show offered a comprehensive look at how difficult it was to have one foot in the old world and the other in the new. The pressure and drama of living your best life was real. The struggles between divorce, weddings, and finding the perfect job were real. So when Bravo decided to pause the show, fans were left scratching their heads.

The Karma family story was real.

I don’t know about you, but watching Amrit Kabai’s coming out story to his grandmother left me in tears. The professional lawyer had been dating his partner for years, but his grandmother always told him he was just a roommate. However, during Season 2, Amrit bravely told his grandmother the truth, and she showed nothing but love for her grandson. Amrit and Nicholas Kochukos filmed their lavish Indian wedding in hopes of encouraging other couples to live their authentic lives. To be honest, there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience. Personally, I want more stories like this from Bravo and less fighting.

Vishal Parvani, who was the class clown of the group, opened up about his choice to get sober in season 3. In the first two seasons, Vishal was the life of the party, often exaggerating his self-presentation. But in an emotional conversation with Amrit, he said, “The problem is that I lie about alcohol. No matter what kind of lie, I shouldn’t lie about it. Even here now, I don’t feel comfortable being sober at a party. I use alcohol to compensate. I don’t think I’m interesting to people. I don’t think I’m fun when I’m not drinking. I just feel sick. I think I have a fucking drinking problem.” The problem was real for Amrit and viewers were interested in his recovery journey.

Karma Family Wins GLADD Award

Family Karma winning the GLADD Award for Best Reality Show came as no surprise to its die-hard fans. It’s a real shame that the show is no longer in production, and I would argue that Bravo sometimes doesn’t know how to read the room when it comes to its audience. Family Karma wasn’t properly promoted and there was no reunion. But the network is more than happy to watch it watch a three-part Real Housewives reunion. Something is wrong here.

It’s easy to see why Family Karma won awards. The show was a breath of fresh air that highlighted real-life friendships. Upon accepting the award, fans realized that the win meant something to Amrit, who shared a story. The lawyer shared that he ran for class president while in high school, but was “tall, skinny, kind of awkward, and very introverted.” Unfortunately, he didn’t get the votes and shared that he “wanted to disappear.” But Amrit perked up, saying, “But now, standing on this stage and winning this award in this moment, I feel like I’m class president.”

The staff wants to keep Family Karma from being put on pause.

It’s no surprise that the cast would also like to see Family Karma return. But rarely do the cast and viewers agree on the same agenda. The show was so good that when Bravo announced its cancellation, it made no sense. After the win, Monica Vaswani posted a sweet video on TikTok in hopes of restarting the conversation. Fans agreed with the sentiment, with many taking to the comments section. One follower wrote, “I don’t even know why you ended Family Karma. It was good and different from the all-white cast!!” Another fan added, “Bravo is going to put Michael Rapaport on our screens but not Family Karma?!”

With the constant fighting that comes with The Real Housewives, it was nice to just sit back and enjoy a show that wasn’t motivated by anything. Hopefully Bravo will listen to our wishes and bring back Family Karma, but only time will tell.
