Do Artem’s claims of co-parenting conflict with Nikki Garcia’s divorce case?

Artem’s attorney, Ilona Antonian, recently spoke with People magazine about the divorce. Antonian confirmed that Artem had no intention of personally commenting on the divorce case. His attorney said, “At this time, Mr. Chigvintsev will not be commenting on any pending proceedings. The parties are focused on raising their children and working together to achieve the best interests of their son.”

Such a claim would seem to conflict with Nikki’s demands in her divorce filing. Nikki is seeking sole legal and physical custody of Matteo. It is true that Nikki has waived visitation rights. This may be her ideal way to raise the children together at this point. Nikki has also requested that neither party be awarded spousal support.

However, Antonian weighed in on the matter. “As standard practice, the divorce response preserves Mr. Chigvintsev’s financial rights to alimony and fees,” the attorney said. “Failure to check these boxes in the responsive pleadings waives the right to seek such relief. There is no pending application for spousal support or fees, also known as an order.”

However, Antonian added that “the parties intend to resolve all outstanding issues on mutually acceptable terms.”
