After the IOC ruled that Jordan’s inquiry into the result was filed four seconds after the one-minute deadline, it must therefore forfeit the bronze medal that would have been awarded to the Romanian athlete. Anna Barboso– Olympic champion Ali responded to the referee.
“This is so sad, and I’m so sad for Jordan,” she said during an August 12 appearance on today“I can’t even imagine what the last week has been like for Jordan and the other athletes involved. It’s absolutely devastating. I don’t think people realize that these players work their entire lives for this moment, and this is supposed to be a celebration.”
“I think it’s unfair and very cruel. I don’t think Jordan should have her medal returned. The IOC has given more than one medal before, and I think they should do it now,” she continued.
Ali also talked about the root cause of the problem, which is that Jordan’s initial result was incorrect.
