Official: Manchester United sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna
The English club did not announce the financial details of the deal, but some press reports indicated that United paid about 40 million euros to sign the 23-year-old player.
Manchester United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, explained in statements via the Red Devils’ official website, after completing the deal: “Signing a striker to strengthen our already strong group was a major goal this summer.”
He stressed: “We are pleased that we were able to sign a player of Joshua’s calibre early in the summer transfer window.”
“Joshua is a fantastic talent and is ready to make an impact at Manchester United,” he said. “His ability and desire to develop into a world-class player means he will be a fantastic addition to the squad we are building for next exciting season.”
“Having already achieved so much in his career, we will provide Joshua with the perfect platform to reach the next level under the guidance and support of Erik ten Hag and the coaching staff. We look forward to seeing Zirkzee flourish at Old Trafford over the coming years.”
Zirkzee was crowned the best player under 23 years old in the Italian League, during the 2023/24 season.
The Dutch star was Bologna’s top scorer last season, helping his team qualify for the Champions League.
