viagramof – England legend Jamie Carragher believes that EnglandNewcastle United manager Eddie Howe is the ideal candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate, after the latter left his position as manager of the Three Lions.
The 53-year-old coach announced his departure from the England national team on Tuesday, following the Three Lions’ loss in the final of theBy 2024, In front of Spain.
“There is a clear candidate to replace Gareth Southgate,” Carragher wrote in the Telegraph. “Eddie Howe, for me, is the clear favourite by a wide margin.”

He continued: “Howe has a great reputation as a club manager, he did a great job at Bournemouth and he did a great job at Newcastle.”
He continued: “His teams play an attacking style, and Howe said he sees coaching the England national team as his greatest ambition.”
“The problem for the FA is whether Howe thinks this is the right time to leave Newcastle. He will have a lot to think about,” he added.
Eddie Howe took over as Newcastle manager in November 2021.
