viagramof – Botswana’s Maclean Letshwete, a member of the Executive Office of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), revealed the reasons for canceling this season’s African Super League championship, one year after it was held.

CAF: The Super League may return next season

In television statements to the “Box to Box” program, Letshwete stressed that the decision to cancel the African Super League championship is final and there is no intention of retracting it.

He pointed out that CAF decided to cancel the Super League this season due to the large number of engagements in the current season, whether at the club level or national team tournaments.

He explained that there will also be many CAF tournaments in 2026, and there will be a World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico, and this will require better equipment for the players and not forcing them into a busy schedule that may cause them to be exhausted.

He stressed that the Super League championship will not be canceled in general, and its competitions may return next season, whether in its form and system in the first edition or in a new form and system.

It is worth noting that the South African team, Sundowns, won the first edition of the African Super League championship, after defeating Moroccan Wydad, with a score of 3-2 on aggregate in the two matches.
