The European Football Association (UEFA) announced on Monday the selection of the Slovenian referee

The European Football Association (UEFA) announced today, Monday, the selection of Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic to officiate the Champions League final between Spanish Real Madrid and German Borussia Dortmund.

The 44-year-old Vincic, who officiated in the Europa League final between Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany and Rangers of Scotland in 2022, will officiate the final match of the Champions League, which will be held at Wembley Stadium in the capital, London, at the beginning of next June.

This will be the fourth final match in the UEFA championships to be managed by a Slovenian referee. The beginning was by choosing Damir Skomina to manage the European League final in 2017. The Dutch come in second place as the most referees who have managed final matches, with 3 times.

Beautiful memories of Dortmund with Vincic

This Slovenian referee has never refereed a match in which Real Madrid was a party, but Borussia Dortmund has fond memories of this referee, who officiated their match against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals this season, which ended with the German team’s 4-2 victory.

Vincic managed 5 Champions League matches this season without calling a penalty kick or showing a red card. Among those matches was the confrontation between Dortmund and Spain’s Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, which ended with the German team winning 4-2.

The Slovenian referee also previously officiated two matches in the 2022 World Cup, including Argentina’s 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia at the start of its tournament campaign.

UEFA also chose Englishwoman Rebecca Welsh to manage the Women’s Champions League final, Romanian Stefan Kovacs for the European League final, and Portuguese Arthur Soares Diaz for the European Conference League final.
