The Daily Mail claims that the player – whose name was not revealed – was diagnosed with an addiction to laughing gas (officially known as nitrous oxide), and was treated in his apartment last month.

The newspaper said that a close friend of the player – who represented his country’s U-21 national team – called emergency services after seeing him surrounded by illegal gas canisters in his apartment.

According to the same source, paramedics conducted the necessary examinations for the player, who was said to have made repeated attempts to fight addiction after his health and career were at risk.

The player’s club continues to provide assistance in the hope that it will save him from addiction to “laughing gas,” which causes a range of risks, including heart attacks, strokes, and brain damage.

There are concerns in England about the increasing prevalence of the use of nitrous oxide among Premier League players. In 2013, Kyle Walker was seen inhaling this substance, while his fellow English star Raheem Sterling was reprimanded by then-Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers for doing the same thing.

Jack Grealish, then Aston Villa player, was also seen inhaling gas and Everton player Dele Alli was surrounded by gas and alcohol canisters.

Last November, the law was changed to make nitrous oxide a Class C controlled drug, and possession for the purpose of inhalation is now a criminal offence.
