Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes that Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid is not good news for the Catalan club, and has revealed the reason behind the sacking of former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez.
On Monday, Real Madrid announced that Mbappe had joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer on a five-year contract.
Real Madrid are preparing to introduce Mbappe as a new player after the Euro 2024 European Cup of Nations with the French national team.
“As a Barcelona fan, it is not good to see Mbappé move to Real Madrid,” Laporta said in a statement reported by Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
He added, “To be honest, I have faith in our plan and project based on La Masia (academy), which produces a lot of young players.”
“I respect our competitors, but I prefer our philosophy,” he concluded.
Xavi’s dismissal
“He did a great job in a difficult time, last year we won the league and the cup,” said the Barcelona president after the team’s sacking of coach Xavi Hernandez announced a few weeks later that he was staying on and renewing his contract. But things were not going well in the Super Cup this year.
He continued: “In February, I agreed that he would leave next summer, because he is a true Barcelona fan, and he forced us not to leave immediately and to look for another option.”
“We asked to continue until the end of the contract (winter 2025), so I asked him if he believed in the team and he said yes. what happened? “There was a change in the narrative around the team, which made me realize that I needed to give the team another push.”
The change in Xavi’s speech “forced me to think again and I thought about Hansi Flick to give this team a new impetus and I believe we can achieve a lot with them,” he explained.

Laporta added: “We finished things with Xavi in coordination.
When asked if the way Xavi was fired was cruel, Laporta said: “Yes, but it’s impossible to please everyone. I think the decision was right.”

Referring to Real Madrid, Laporta said: “It is worth winning everything, and they played in a very dirty way, and the referee’s decision is always in their favor.” In that sense, it is the judges’ favorite club.
